Description

Esquizofrenia is an abstract strategy board game played on a hexagonal grid with 24 double-sided pieces divided into three symbol groups: circles, triangles, and stars. Each piece shows the same symbol on both sides but in different colors. At the start of the game, four pieces are placed on the colored corner spaces of the board with the side matching the space facing down. On their turn, a player moves one visible piece either to an adjacent empty space or by jumping over a neighboring piece into the next empty space, similar to checkers. Multiple jumps can be chained in a single turn. When a piece jumps over another piece, the jumped piece may flip depending on whether its symbol or color matches the jumping piece. Flipping changes the color currently facing up, affecting which player may move it in future turns. If a piece reaches a space that matches both its symbol and the color facing up, it leaves the board. Because pieces may flip during jumps, it is possible to remove more than one piece in a single turn. The winner is the player who, on their turn, has no legal moves remaining—either because none of their pieces remain on the board or because their pieces are blocked.
