The goal of the game is to score the most points by drawing dogs from the dogpile or deck and strategically arranging them in your rescue in groups (called packs) to maximize points. You can build up to 4 packs in your rescue. Dogs at the top of each pack are called pack leader. Every dog has the potential to be a pack leader and they give you scoring bonuses if you meet their conditions.. Each dog has a particular personality and size (but you might run into some wild dogs along the way). Most dogs also have abilities that activate when you place them in your rescue, or special tricks you can perform during your turn. Dogs who don't have a place in your rescue can be sent to the Foster Family, where they ll also get bonus points depending on their personality. Along the way, three Adoption Event cards will be revealed, which allows players to adopt out dogs from their rescue, foster family, or hand to score additional points. The game ends after the third Adoption Event is completed, and the player with the most points wins.
