Starship Combat is a game of interstellar combat circa 2700 A.D. Each hexagon on the plane sheet represents a trillon miles of an imaginary sector of space, yet each unit counter represents just one starship or inner stellar base. The starships move in hyperspace mode at speeds greatly faster than light (I will not make any pretense on knowing how it is done, since present-day physics does not grant the possibility of such speeds), and they are equipped with energy-beam weapons, and sensors which operate at speeds even faster than the ship's speeds. Interstellar bases, although immobile, also exist in hyper-space mode, so as to allow safe contact with starships. An object is in hyperspace mode, however, has a disadvantage of being easily discernible by enemy sensors; and against units in hyperspace, the weapons possess a maximum effective range of 6 rillion miles.miles.
