Zappazon is a territory making game for the 9x9 grid board. Goal: Be the last player to make a legal move. Setup and material: Board starts empty. Both players must have access to some stones for marking blocked territory, and two pawns for movement. Phase 1: Player start by alternating putting down their pawns on whatever space they choose until each their two pawns has been places. Phase 2: Players moves have two parts. First they must move their pawn the equivalent of two kings moves in chess, ending on another space than they started on. Then they shoot off a stone to land at any place visible from then in the orthogonal or diagonal directions, that is, as a queen could move in chess. Goal and strategy Players take turns moving until one player cannot make a legal move. Effectively one would only make moves until all opponent pawns are blocked off into separate territories, then one could simply count the remaining territory, and the one with the larger territory would be the winner. —description from the designer
