Description

The biggest celebrity in the modern board gaming word is arguably Dr Reiner Knizia. With over 500 published games and a cupboard full of awards, the doctor is known for his simple ideas that contain hidden depth. It does not come as a surprise, after playing various designs of his, that he earned his PhD in the field of mathematics. His titles' mechanics have a mathematical precision to them; so much so that 'kniziaesque' is entering the vernacular of many an aficionado. Samurai, one of his most highly praised titles, is about clever placement of pawns on a map of Japan. In Paparazzi, we are trying to snap the best shots of those famous picture cards while they are on the red carpet. —description from the designer This game is part of Femtitva, a collection of 10 games by Scott Huntington that were inspired by popular modern games but can be played with a traditional deck of cards. In Paparazzi, the 12 court cards ("Celebs") are laid out in a 4x3 grid with space for one card between each row and column. Players get cards from a single suit (2 players: Ace-10; 3 players: 2-10; 4 players: 3-10), and draw 3 cards from their own shuffled deck. In turns players put one of their hand cards in a free space orthogonally adjacent to one or two Celebs and draw a new hand card. When the last card is laid, each Celeb is given to the player with the highest pip total for their cards beside it. The winner is the player with the most points, with these Celebs scored: King = 5, Queen = 4, Jack = 3, and two or three Celebs of the same suit gets a 2 or 3 point bonus. —user summary
