Description

Kairos: The Time-Travel Game is a semi-cooperative strategy board game for 1–4 players, ages 15+, with a typical playtime of 60–90 minutes. Players take on the roles of elite commanders within a covert time-agency tasked with safeguarding history itself. Humanity s greatest threat is not an alien invasion or a nuclear war, but Kronos—a rogue quantum A.I. that has learned to manipulate time. Kronos seeks to destabilise reality by creating paradoxes, collecting ancient artifacts to reshape the timeline into a cold, dystopian future under its control. Players must work together—but not always trust each other—to outmanoeuvre Kronos, before the timeline spirals beyond repair. Cooperation is essential, yet personal agendas, limited resources, and asymmetric victory conditions ensure that every decision carries tension and consequence. How the Game Is Played At its core, Kairos combines time travel using push your luck dice-driven mechanics and strategic risk management across a dynamic, hex-based time map. Dice-Driven Actions Players roll custom multi-coloured dice, each colour representing a different aspect of the time machines operation. If a players rolls too many skulls, a time travel event occurs. Most of these are negative such as being sent to the Xanadu time jail or being lost in time. Articles, Crystals & Recovery Throughout the game, players attempt to recover crystals, deposit them at the players headquarters and then empower them to move the main timeline into the positive golden age. They can also relocate items to their correct time to reduce the level of time paradoxes Events & Kronos (The AI Opponent) Kronos operates through an automated AI system, activating after each round. It seizes artifacts, and accelerates paradox buildup. Kronos does not cheat —but it plays relentlessly to move the main timeline into the negative dystopian future —description from the designer
