Ships and Tactics is a Japanese doujin card game produced by doujin card and game club Phoenix Command. It is currently in its 4th edition. The game is based on Modern Naval Battles Card Game from 3W games and uses anime ships instead of modern naval ones. Each player has ships and cards that are unique to their force. The sequence of play is: Draw phase Special Weapon Attack Phase Aircraft Attack Phase Fleet Attack Phase Declaration of Contact/Melee Special Action Phase Hand Adjustment and Untap Phase Basic game play involves each player determining the action that they will do in each phase. With regards to shooting, ammo cards are played to fire at another player's ships, but to fire a card you must have a ship that can fire that type of ammo. Ships are arranged into rows, and certain weapon types, such as beams and missiles, can attack based upon their position in the fleet. Beam weapons, for example, can shoot from front row to front row, while missiles can shoot from the front row to the front and back rows. Players can also use special cards to defect or intercept shots, as well as send out fighters and mecha from their carriers, use tactics, or other special abilities. Cards are identified with their offensive weapons, defensive capabilities, and hit points. If you are a fan of anime shows dealing with mecha, then this is a game for you. The starter set included a deck for: Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Galactic Empire Mobile Suit Gundam - Principality of Zeon Mobile Suit Gundam - Earth Defense Force Space Battleship Yamato - Earth Federation Additional decks are sold.
