Bear Hunt 捕熊陷阱 [Bǔ xióng xiànjǐng]
2016
Published by War Drum Games
Postcard wargame of the battle of Hunhung Ni (Sinhung-Ni / Xinxing Li) in late November 1950 during the Korean War. Two players represent the Chinese 'volunteers' and the US forces respectively. A standard hex-and-counter wargame (move-fight-recover for each side in turn) lasting six 1-day turns and containing only 21 counters. Map scale is 1km per hex. In an unusual mechanic, the Chinese use a d10 in combat, and the US a d6, but both seek to roll less that their own attack strength minus the enemy's defence strength. The Chinese player must reduce US morale to 0 in order to win immediately, otherwise they win if Chinese units occupy the town of Hunhung Ni, while the US wins if it exists a given number of strength points off the map.
