Players take turns traveling around the spaces of the game board, each designated as a mile post along a train track. The player executes the action of the mile post they land on. If the mile post contains a switch, the player must roll a die to determine if he or she must continue along the main line or take siding, which has its own spaces for movement before rejoining the main line. The goal of the game is to be the last player to reach a fixed number of demerits, or brownies, assigned throughout the game. Individual spaces may assign brownies; require the player to draw message or job insurance cards, which immediately go into effect; lose a turn; transfer some of your brownies to another player; or go on vacation. Landing on another player sends them to the Extra Board, where they roll for some benefit and to determine where they must re-enter the main line.
