Square Play-on is a name re-defined based on the shape This is also called Indian LUDO sometimes. It is one of the oldest board games extant. (Don t know the Origins of the Game) It is played in many homes of India (particularly in the south part of India even today still being popular and known to everyone. There are references to this game in some ancient Indian epics like the Mahabharata. The most common names are Chauka Bara (Kannada) Ashta Chamma (Telugu) and a list of various names and regions are given below Chouka Bara , Katte Mane ,Gatta Mane - Kannada - Mysuru region Chakaara or Chakka - Kannada - North Karnataka Pakidakali , Kavidi Kali - Malayalam - Kerala region Ashta Chamma - Telugu - Andhra Pradesh/Telangana Daayam or Thaayam - Tamil - Tamil Nadu Atthu, Kanna Kauri ,Chunga ,Cheeta ,Chanda —Hindi -Madhya Pradesh and central India region Champool/ Kach kangri - Marathi - Maharashtra Baji ,Chomal Ishto,Kaangi chaala - Gujarati Changa po - Rajasthan (source: Wikipedia) This Game is a two- or four-player board game, Usually written by chalk on the floor as and when required. This game is an example of a fully observable positional system of pawns that has an element of chance introduced by the roll of cowry shells and an element of strategy (The strategy being the pawn the player decides to move after the roll ). While traditionally played with 4 or 6 cowry shells, Dice in particular Stick dice can also be used.
