Neuch tel is a French-speaking canton, located in French-speaking Switzerland. It can be represented in four major regions. Along Lake Neuch tel is the region called Littoral. The city of Neuch tel is established on the right bank of the lake. To the north, passing through the Chaumont, is the Val-de-Ruz. West of Neuch tel, still in the Littoral, is the alluvial cone of the mouth of the Areuse. The valley narrows further to the west in a narrow gorge and then opens onto the Val-de-Travers.
