With the light of a new dawn, a clan of Neanderthals wake by a smouldering fire. They re hungry and tired of eating berries and small game. Excitement soon spreads like wildfire as they peer from their cave, across the vast grasslands and forests to the clear mountain peaks beyond. The clouds have lifted, and a warm sun softens the snow around them. Winter has passed and soon to follow are the giants of fur and bone; the mighty Mammoths! Prehistorica is a two-player asymmetric deck-deconstruction board game in which one player managers a tribe of Neanderthals and the other migrates a herd of Mammoths. As the Neanderthals, you ll have to gather resources, build traps, and craft weaponry to succeed in hunting the Mammoths. As the Mammoths, you ll have to fend off attacks and migrate through three different territories; the grasslands, forests, and mountains – grazing and eating plenty of berries along the way – until you are safe from the Neanderthals hunting party. The Neanderthals win if they successfully hunt all four Mammoths, and the Mammoths win if they successfully migrate across the board with at least one surviving member of the herd. For the Neanderthals, this is the most prosperous time of year… but for the Mammoths, it s the most dangerous leg of their journey. —description from the designer
