The Archmage is dead, and the most powerful Wizards of the Guild have gathered at Firepeak to compete for her throne. In Ascension at Firepeak, two to five players take on the role of rival wizards racing to complete the Mighty Rite of Authority and become the next Archmage. To win, players must construct a legal Pattern of ten creatures beneath their Wizard card, using clever positioning, clan alignment, and power hierarchies. Each creature belongs to one of six clans, and obeys strict placement rules based on adjacency, leadership, and power. Turns are deceptively simple—players take two actions per turn from a menu of nine, including recruiting new creatures, capturing opponents minions, rearranging their patterns, raiding dungeons, brainwashing prisoners, casting spells, and more. A separate Research deck allows players to add powerful new spells to their spellbook by sacrificing creatures. Spells are fueled by creatures in your personal Dungeon, creating dynamic tension between building your Pattern and sacrificing resources for magic. Strategic use of your Dungeon, defending it with a Guard, and choosing when to disrupt others' patterns are essential to your path to power. The game ends either when a player completes the Pattern required to cast the Mighty Rite, or when the Recruitment deck is exhausted. In the latter case, the winner is determined by the total power of creatures in their Pattern. Optional rules allow for clan-specific creature powers, enhancing replay value and strategic depth. Similar to: Seasons – Both games feature spellcasting, resource planning, and summoning creatures to build an engine. Blue Moon – Tactical hand management and factional creature powers echo Firepeak s clan dynamics. Drakon – Light fantasy competition with positional tactics and interference among players.
