Game of Goosey Gander

1890

Published by J.H. Singer

Description

Simple children's race game. Players roll a die to determine how many spaces to move and race around board to get back to the nest which contains the "Golden egg". It would take 68 spaces to go around the track from, and back to, the nest. Markers - Each player gets one marker of a unique color. Die - The player can advance as many spaces as thrown on the die. However there are three exceptions: A player cannot pass another Goose. So if a player rolls a 3, and the space 3 spaces ahead is occupied, then the player can only move forward two spaces. If a player lands on an egg spaces then he must move behind the the last player on the board. If there is still a player in the nest, then the move is back to the nest. You don't have to return to the nest by an exact roll. This game should not be confused with McLoughlin Bros.' "Goosy Goosy Gander" (1896), which is referred to as "Game of Goosey Gander" on the inside of the box. (Last-minute realization, perhaps?)
